Left: Ida with Kakruka, a Himba woman (1992). On our way from Cape Town to Cairo we came to the untill then closed northern Namibia and found isolated Himbas. Kakruka could produce everything she needed herself from the harsh environment. To meet her was a moving experience, a glimpse of an Africa in balance - rapidly disappearing. Soon Kakruka or her son would learn to use the laptop.
Right: Flowering agave in Oromoland, south Ethiopia (1992). A year of drought and desperate survivial. Even in years a good rains Ethioipia cannot feed it self.
